What are the requirements for a fence around my pool?
Every city has different requirements. Most cities require a 6-foot fence with a self-closing gate. Some require the gate to be locked. Some cities don’t require a fence if you have a strong cover. This is not a good idea, because if you forget to cover your pool and a small child wanders into your backyard the risks are just too high. Some people decide to just put a fence around their pool with only the decking between the pool and the fence. This is an economical option, however, it does reduce the aesthetics of the pool in your back yard, and makes it harder for you to get to the pool if there is an emergency.

How will I know where my property line is?
This is a very complicated question. If you have any doubt you might want to contact a survey company to locate your property line. Most people have a fairly good idea of where the line is. Sometimes you can find a metal survey stake in your yard at the corners or even a paint line on the curb in new construction. We suggest you talk to your neighbors and make sure everyone agrees where that line is. This would be a great time to ask if they are willing to contribute to the new fence.
Should I talk to my neighbor before installing a new fence?
It is always a great idea to talk to the neighbors before you decide to put up a new fence. If you sell the idea about how great it would look and how much it would increase the privacy and security for both of you, they just might offer to pay some of the cost. It is also a good idea to make sure they agree where the property lines are.
I own my property can my HOA have a say about my fence?
